Persephone has come from the underworld to visit her mother, Demeter. Dressed in the somber dark clothes of a Greek peasant woman, she has gone to the market and chooses a pomegranate to take home. Later she will eat it and accidentally swallow six seeds -- and because of that she must return to Hades for six months out of every year, and we will have winter.
